The Department of Dams, Hydropower, Mines, and Roads addresses a number of highly-complex areas. Its major activities include:

• Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and hydropower potential assessments of rivers and basins;
• Environmental impact assessments of hydroelectric power plants;
• Studies and projects for multi-purpose use of water resources at different levels;
• Dam studies, projects, and construction supervision;
• In situ static and dynamic monitoring of the performance of hydraulic structures;
• Determination of mechanical properties of soils based on field investigations and laboratory tests, for design purposes.

The Department is especially proud of its references: Study of the Available Hydropower Potential of the Drina River; Water Information Systems for the Drina and Vlasina Rivers; Detailed Designs for the Prvonek and Bogovina Dams; and Feasibility Study of the Neretva-Ulog, Janjske Otoke and Bistrica Hydroelectric Power Plants.
