The Department of Erosion and Torrent Control studies torrential and erosion processes and addresses technical, biotechnical, biological and regulatory measures aimed at controlling these processes. The Department’s main activities include:

• Field surveys and measurements, to determine torrential and erosion processes and their influence on sediment production;
• Assessments and analyses of the major causes of torrents and erosion, and of the effectiveness of implemented response measures;
• Flash flood protection;
• Torrential stream attenuation, sediment production reduction, and river-basin sediment management.

The Department of Erosion and Torrent Control is especially proud of its references: Methodology for the Designation of Erosion Areas; Erosion Area Designation Plans and Flash Flood Protection Plans for the Municipalities of Požarevac, Topola, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Čačak and Arandjelovac and the City of Belgrade; and numerous plans for the development of erosion and flash flood areas across Serbia.
