IWA SPECIALIST GROUNDWATER CONFERENCE, Belgrade 2011.
IWA Specialist Groundwater Conference will take place from 8. to 10. September 2011.
Apart from glaciers, groundwater is quantitatively the most significant freshwater resource on the planet Earth.The importance and nature of groundwater resources call for mankind to act at global, regional, and local levels. Groundwater management requires appropriate legislation, infrastructure and socio-economic frameworks, as well as proper planning and implementation of engineering measures. It is also neccessary to consider climate change issues and its impact on groundwater management.
The Conference would address: - The preparation and implementation of groundwater component of water management plans for large river basins;
- The importance of the aerobic state of groundwater, and of the processes which are driven by the level of the aerobicity;
- Climate change and its impact on groundwater;
- Management of urban groundwater basins: mitigation of water quality impacts from anthropogenic threats.
The goals of the Conference are to: - Present recent experience in the development and implementation of the groundwater component of the water management plans (large river basins, national programs) – sustainable and adaptive management;
- Advance knowledge of the importance of the aerobic state of aquifers in different phases of groundwater resource management (opening of a source, protection of a source, maintenance of facilities, well-ageing etc.);
- Provide insight into the impact of climate change on groundwater resources and potential mitigation and adaptation measures; and
- Promote contemporary methods for the mitigation of anthropogenic influences on significant groundwater aquifers, especially within the zones of large urban centers.
